Kisumu, Kenya
11th - 13th September, 2023
KISKAM is a voluntary demand-based urban-rural relocation project whose aim is to empower communities in urban slums to settle sustainably in their rural homes to urban mitigate poverty. This is done through a process with an emphasis on developing the capacity of individual beneficiaries with skills and financial support to enable them to acquire livelihoods at their destination. The pilot of this project targets Fifty families from five villages in Kibera: Kisumu Ndogo, Lindi, Gatwekera, Silanga, KambiMuru, and Mashimoni being relocated to Western Kenya. A total of Fifty (50 families) have been relocated to Siaya, Vihiga, and Kisumu Counties in a drive that started in September 2022 to January 2023. Currently, families are getting established in their homes, nurturing their families, overseeing business startups, and linking with the new environment. Our Field teams have accompanied the beneficiaries in this journey and have been monitoring the project progress systematically. Hence, the KISKAM review meeting aims to provide a platform for reflection, ideas exchange, and collation of lessons learnt to facilitate further review and planning for an impactful project.
